SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!

Greetings everyone!  I can't believe May came and went in a flash!  This month sped by because of baseball and my hip surgery recovery - baseball was a nice distraction from the surgery too! I had a wonderful Mother's Day with my babies too!

I'm going to start this blog with my hip update.  I had FAI (femoroactebular Impingement) surgery on April 30th.  The surgeon (Dr James Bruckner) said he was very confident that this surgery took care of the problem that was causing my hip cartilage (labrum) to repeatedly tear.  During the surgery, Bruckner cut out and removed my torn cartilage.  Next he shaved a good size section of my femoral head off and removed the extra bone.  He was unable to remove the anchor placed by my previous surgery but definitely saw damage from the anchor on my femoral head.  I was discharged from the surgery center the same afternoon and felt very awake and my pain was managed excellently.  I was told that I would be on crutches for 4-6 weeks.

I spent 2 weeks on crutches before going to my 12 day post op appointment.  The PA told me I could start putting more weight on my left leg and slowly walk without crutches.  Within 2 days, I was completely off crutches and attempting to walk without a limp.  By week 3, I was back in the gym doing upper body work outs and walking on the treadmill (SLOWLY).  I'm finishing up week 4 of my recovery and I feel amazing.  I managed to walk down to Cameron's school for pick up yesterday (2 miles roundtrip!).  My left leg was tired but not sore.  I was also able to increase my speed on the treadmill this week as well!  I'm about 3 weeks ahead of my recovery schedule.

The final part of this surgery is my 6 week post op appointment with Dr Bruckner.  After this appointment, I should be cleared to start using exercise bands and doing light lower body workouts soon!  I'm not rushing it but I'm SOOOOOO ready to be back to the old, painfree me!  My incisions are healing amazing and the scarring will hopefully be minimal.

Ryan was home for 12 days this surgery and took over my SAHM duties as well as most of the pick ups and drop offs.  My mom and Heather also came down and helped us (THANK YOU!)  I had so many friends drop off meals, treats, flowers and care packages!  Thank you to all my sweet friends and family for thinking of us and showing love.  It was such a blessing and we are beyond thankful.

Now to my favorite part of the blog - MY BABIES!!  Both kids are doing amazing!  They have less than a month left of school before summer vacation starts.  I can't believe how fast this year has gone by!  I feel like I was just freaking out with anxiety about Cameron starting Kindergarten and now it's over.  We almost have a 1st grader!!  Natalie's last day of school is the same week as Cameron's.  She will be moving up to Pre-Kindergarten next year - her last year before Elementary school!!  Both kids absolutely LOVED their teachers and friends in their classes.  We had such an amazing experience this year and we can't wait to start up again in the fall - but first, an awesome summer!

Cameron's Kindergarten class put on a play for their families this month - The Three Piggy Opera.  IT WAS THE CUTEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN!  All the kids did wonderful and couldn't be more proud of themselves.  Cameron played the part of the "Straw Peddler" (He sold the straw to a little piggy).  I was so impressed with all the kids and how confident they were!  Kindergarten definitely helped Cam with his shy personally.  He is beaming with confidence and knowledge now.

Baseball season is now coming to an end. The team's name is THE FIREBALLS and according to Cam, they have an undefeated record (close but not so).  Cameron has become such an amazing baseball player and seems to be favoring 1st base.  He totally understands the game and tries his best at practices and games.  Natalie has been SO PATIENT this season.  The Fireballs play baseball 3 times a week and Natalie attended almost every game and practice!  She is the most patient 4 year old I've ever met in my life!

Sorry this blog is short, most of the month was spent laying around - LOL!

Love you guys!  Hope June is great for all!  HUGS

Thank You.
